Hansjörg Mair, born in South Tyrol in 1968, has been Managing Director of the Black Forest Tourism Board (Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH) since 2017. Before moving to Freiburg, he spent 16 years as Managing Director of the South Tyrol South Tourism Association in Bolzano.
Trained as a tourism professional, Mair studied Destination Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. With more than three decades of experience, he combines destination development, brand management, communication and innovation.
Today, he is committed to positioning the Black Forest as one of Germany’s leading and most distinctive tourism regions, combining strong traditions with contemporary experiences, quality and a clear focus on the future. Tourism generates around 57 million overnight stays in the Black Forest each year and more than €8.7 billion in gross annual revenue.
Beyond tourism, Mair is passionate about outdoor sports and travel, architecture and design, as well as good food and wine. His South Tyrolean roots continue to shape his personality and his approach to tourism.
