Anya Niewierra has been General Director of Visit Zuid-Limburg (Stichting VVV Zuid-Limburg) since 1993, a DMO (Destination Management Organisation) with an annual turnover of approximately €5 million, 35% of which is generated through the 17 member municipalities. Visit Zuid-Limburg is active in the fields of tourism strategy, knowledge portal, information collection and provision, ticketing, route point, (Eu)regional project management and marketing (www.visitzuidlimburg.nl).
She has also been a board member of NECSTOUR in Brussels since 2013. This is the partnership of the major tourism regions in Europe.
Until the summer of 2021, she was on the board of the VVV (DMO) Group Netherlands.
In April 2023, the Dutch King awarded her with a Royal Decoration and appointed her Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau for ‘her leading contribution to the tourism development of South Limburg and the development of sustainable tourism in the Netherlands and Europe.’ She was the first director of a Tourist Board receiving this high Royal Decoration.
