Jonathan Gómez Punzon

CEO Málaga Tourism Board

With a passion for sustainable tourism and a track record of enhancing destinations, he serves as the Director of Tourism for Málaga, one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.

Previously, as International Liaison Officer at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), he built global partnerships with universities and tourism ministries worldwide. He played a key role in launching “Tourism for SDGs” in 2017 during the United Nations’ International Year of Sustainable Tourism. His leadership in the Affiliate Members Program fostered influential public-private alliances, coordinating networks like the UNWTO Gastronomy and Urban Tourism Networks.

Earlier in his career, he directed convention bureaus in Granada, Ibiza, and Castilla-La Mancha, elevating these destinations on the international stage.

He has advised governments across Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia on tourism strategies and consulted projects for leading firms like Boston Consulting Group and Oliver Wyman.

His academic achievements include a Doctorate in Tourism, a Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and additional master’s degrees in hotel management, tourism consulting
