Donatella is a professional in the field of tourism economics and geography. She currently holds the position of full professor at the University of Catania, where she is also the president of the degree course in Tourism Sciences.

After obtaining a degree in Economics and a Master’s in Agribusiness, she dedicated more than fifteen years to research in the food sector.

Today her career is characterized by a passion for travel and the study of tourism systems and their relationships with destinations.

In particular, she specialized in the valorization of the territory from a tourism perspective, with particular attention to food-and-wine tourism, dark tourism and religious tourism. Donatella is also specialized in the field of sustainability and pedal mobility.

Her research and contributions are widely recognized, with over 100 scientific publications to her credit both nationally and internationally.

She has written articles in prestigious journals around the world, demonstrating a constant commitment to sharing knowledge and promoting academic debate on tourism and sustainable food models.
